I was just watching TV and the news update came on about the Indians blockading the Flinders St station intersection in protest about a few indian students getting stabbed recently whilst on public transport. Now this is one of
Melbourne's busiest intersections.
Let's reverse the situation. If Australians were being targeted in India, would they stage a protest in one of India's busiest intersection? And start fights with the police and throw shit at any Australian who dared to tell them they didn't agree with what they were doing?
It's only because we're in a country with a liberal government that they can do something like this. I'm not saying racially motivated violence is okay, I'm saying they're lucky to be in a country like Australia. And if they don't appreciate it, and just want to whinge about how they are treated (it's not even 100% that those people were stabbed because they're Indian, it could be a coincidence and like the papers said, they do travel by themselves at night with lots of valuables) then they can just stay home. Isn't that what we would tell Aussies who are being targeted overseas?
I mean is it a coincidence that Schapelle Corby for instance, who was caught with a shitload of marijuana in her bag and went on to badmouth the Indonesian government, and their justice system was jailed for 20 years whilst Michelle Leslie, when caught with ecstasy, wore Islamic dress (like their culture demanded), was generally respectful and came home with a slap on the wrist? When you're in a different country on a visa, you generally try and stay respectful and not draw attention to yourself, like parading in front of Flinders St station without your top on screaming in a foreign language.
PS: Schapelle Corby's mother is the biggest bogan - now blaming Kevin Rudd for not "delivering his promise" of freeing her daughter. HE DOES NOT OWE HER ANYTHING. You mean out of a country of how many fucking million people he's supposed to personally protect this one woman, just because her mother demands so? Get a clue.
This also goes for the Tamils protesting against Sri Lanka in Fed Square - What can we do? The Sri Lankan government doesn't give a shit about some protest in Melbourne, so basically they're just blocking up the use of Fed Square, making a lot of noise - for no reasons other than to convince themselves they are "making a difference". This goes for any group who decides to protest against another country in a crowded, popular place right in the middle of Melbourne city, not just the Indians.
If they really feel they're being victimised (which I don't think so), they have the right to stay home. We're not stopping them. I'm asian and I've never been stabbed on the train. I think most have it good in Australia, getting paid to stay home and do nothing as long as they ring up places that won't hire them to ask for a job a few times a week. Most people don't live in slum conditions like they do in third world countries. If Australia was that bad we wouldn't have people coming from overseas, and refugees in floods wanting to live here. So appreciate what you have instead of whingeing.

In other news I've nearly finished my folio and I'm almost free! Thanks to everyone who voted in my poll for my typography poster, it really helped me to make a decision.
Also, I had a typegasm when I saw this site:

Anyone want to visit the Melbourne Museum of Printing with me? I haven't been and I really want to check it out *bats eyelids at friends*
I also found this cool site where you can make your own tile using some patterns and colours that can be tessellated into a background! Way cool, check it out:
